SARS-CoV-2

The disease Covid-19, which is caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, has been affecting our everyday life since the beginning of 2020. The symptoms of this lung disease and the course of the disease vary greatly. Often described symptoms are fever, coughing, headaches, but also abdominal pain and/or diarrhoea. This infectious disease usually progresses very mildly, but in some cases pneumonia occurs and severe breathing problems follow, which can also lead to acute lung failure and even death.

If infection with the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is suspected, samples should be taken from the upper and lower respiratory tract if possible. In this case, a test system based on nucleic acid amplification, such as the SARS-CoV-2 Triplex PCR kit from Astra Biotech GmbH, is available for analysis in the laboratory.
