Fast and sensitive diagnosis of gonorrhea and trichomoniasis

Worldwide increasing incidence of sexual transmitted diseases (STD) can among others be explained by their asymptomatic course. In spite of these “silent” infections, STDs can cause severe health problems like pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility or damages of unborn babies in case of infected pregnant women. Gonorrhea and Trichomoniasis also rank among HIV contributing factors.

Techniques for cultivation to diagnose STD require a distinct and high concentration of microbes in the samples that are not preset in early stages of infection. On the other hand, a delayed diagnosis increases the risk of irreversible damages and worsens the therapy possibilities.
The new Astra Biotech real time PCR kits, Neisseria gonorrhoeae PCR kit (Ref 84-01) and Trichomonas vaginalis PCR kit (Ref 84-02), provide a reliable and fast diagnosis of STD and help to minimize transmission to sexual partners.
